Landing a decent job these days is not that easy with the ruthless competition and the plummeting unemployment rates. Furthermore, companies are flooded with resumes every day (even when they’re not actively hiring for a certain position). Your CV needs to stand out. One different and fun way of doing this is with an infographic resume – a CV that visually depicts your work history.

You might have heard of the story of the journalism student from the University of Missouri, Chris Spurlock who posted his infographic CV on Huffington Post College. The resume proceeded to go viral after the Huffington’s Post Traffic and Trends Editor tweeted it to his 5,800 followers. The infographic amassed thousands of Facebook “Likes”, hundred of Tweets, and tens of thousands of page views. Eventually, the Huffington Post hired Chris as a Inforgraphic Design Editor.

Here are some of the best sites you can use to create your own infograpghic CV:

1. Brazen Careerist Facebook app

2. Kinzaa

3. Re.vu

4. Visualize.me

5. Mostcreativeresumes.com

6. CVGramMe

Some of these sites enable you to use your LinkedIn profile as the information source for generating your infographic resume. For tips on how to set up a LinkedIn profile see our blog post from a couple of weeks ago.

While an infographic CV shouldn’t completely replace the traditional Word doc resume, it is definitely an option you should explore to supplement your ordinary job application. Firstly it demonstrates that you understand how to use the latest media tools, you stay ontop of current trends and will bring that knowledge to the organistation that you have applied to work at. Secondly it shows that you are more than just a writer. Learing some design will also increase your “marketability”. And lastly but definitely not leastly, it illustrates your creativity.
